Inuyama Castle: Small but impregnable

Visited Inuyama Castle last September.

The castle is located on a hill. In the background, Kiso river is running. Looks like attacking it was very hard. The picture below was taken from the road along the river.

Unlike Nagoya Castle and Osaka Castle, there is no elevator! You need to go up steep stairs (or ladder?) to the top floor. But it is not so hard to reach there, because it is a small castle.

It is one of the only twelve original castles in Japan (i.e survived natural disasters and wars). The Interior has been beautifully maintained as it was in old days.

It takes 15 minutes on foot from Inuyama Station to the castle (To the station, take Meitetsu Line from Nagoya Station. By the way, Nagoya is the fourth largest city by population in Japan). If you want to enjoy the same view as the picture above, going from Inuyama Yuen Station is recommended (about 15 minutes walk). I walked from Inuyama Station, enjoyed the view from the castle, and strolled along the riverside to Inuyama Yuen Station.
